What It Feels Like

Winters are still quite pleasant with temperatures around 15 to 20 degrees and summers are never too hot. Even in December or January you can enjoy outdoor activities most days. The only thing to keep in mind is that December and January can be a little rainier but it usually doesnt last long.

It is perfect for hikers who want to explore levada trails, couples looking for romantic views and fresh air, or solo travelers who enjoy mixing walking with quiet moments. Nature lovers and those interested in beautiful landscapes will be especially happy here. It is less suitable for people who mainly want beach lounging because the beaches are small and rocky, or for families with very small children because many paths are steep and narrow.

How To Get There
You can fly directly to Madeira Airport in Funchal from many European cities. The flight from Lisbon takes around two hours. From the airport its easy to get a taxi or bus to Funchal or other parts of the island. If you coming from farther away most people fly through Lisbon or Porto first. Renting a car is highly recommended because the island has many beautiful spots that are better reached by car, though the roads are winding and sometimes steep. Public buses exist but they dont cover everything conveniently.
